How To Get Rid Of Diaper Rash for Children

Diaper rash is the inflamed skin found in the diaper area in infants and in young children. Diaper rash is the result of skin irritation caused by prolonged contact with urine or feces or both.

The diapers trap urine or feces and cause the irritation of the skin leading to bacterial or fungal infection. The hot and moist environment in the diaper promotes the growth of bacteria and fungus. Diaper rashes are also seen in people with incontinence and paralysis

Causes Of Diaper Rash

Some of the important causes of diaper rash in infants and children are

  • Contact With Urine And Feces:  Urine and feces make the moisture to come into contact with the skin which causes irritation. The digestive enzymes present in the feces also increase the rash.
  • Friction And Rubbing:  The tight fitting diapers rub with the skin and the constant friction leads to rash.
  • Irritating Chemicals:  Chemicals found in detergents, fabric softeners, baby lotions, baby wipes cause irritation to the skin in some infants leading to a rash.
  • Infections: The moist environment created by diaper is the perfect breeding ground for bacterial and yeast infections. Blisters, red bumps in the creases of skin etc are the signs of infection.
